"Special Beta Edition -- Correction

Because you signed up to test the Windows 7 Beta, we recently sent you mail about the expiration dates for the Beta and Release Candidate. Unfortunately, we made a mistake.

We said the Beta would start shutting down every two hours on June 1, 2009. The correct date is July 1, 2009.


The rest of the dates in the mail were correct. Here’s a quick summary:

Version: Starts shutting down every two hours: Expires: Beta July 1, 2009 August 1, 2009 Release Candidate March 1, 2010 June 1, 2010

We apologize for the error and any confusion it may have caused.

Well done Microsoft.....wankers - Windows7 is a flop

Just recently in my inbox i recived this email message :

"We’re sending this mail to remind you that Windows 7 Release candidate is available and to make sure you plan ahead for when the Beta expires on August 1, 2009. On June 1, 2009, the PC you’re using to test the Beta will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will send you a notice a couple of weeks in advance, and that’d be the ideal time to rebuild your test PC with a non-expired version of Windows, such as the RC or Windows Vista. This will be a clean installation, so be ready to reinstall your programs and data."

What a bunch of cocks, i very well knew when the due date was going to expire on Windows7........ so why the hell do they need to shut down after 2 hours use, before the due date of expiry??? Would you rent a car if you knew that 6 hours before the car has to be back at the depot, it would stop on the side of the road every 2 hours.

Why am i so bitter? I didn't pay anything for it - well kiddies, Windows7 is currently residing on my wife's laptop......and she is still in Australia (I'm in NZ remember).....until mid June - before Windows7b expires.......but after this archaic 2 hour shutdown sequence goes ahead.

While Windows7 is not a bad package - Microsoft should just call what it is...... Vista SP2.
Now i love Vista - so i in turn like Windows7.
But with crap like this i know exactly what is going to happen when i get home, her PC will be wiped and Linux Mint is going on.

Well done Microsoft - you have just lost one of your biggest fans.

Why is it that.....

People can jam a circle into a square?
Everyone i talk to says : "Why don't you keep working in the power sector?"
Well its very simple, i gave the power sector an inch - and they took a foot. I gave the power sector the benefit of the doubt and assumed that technology would slot in there eventually. Well it hasn't, and too make it worse it won't be implemented in the near future.
People are quite happy to do their banking online, buy things over a network with their credit card, store all their important files over a established network........ but control and operate equipment with the latest technology - what are you crazy?
Why has it become a black art to fooling the power and control sector that what you are giving them is exactly the same as their old (outdated) setup. When did these so called professionals "lose interest" in what they did? When did they want to stop learning new things?

Think about is in your professions - when did you last send an actual letter? When did you last walk down the street to pick up a phone and call someone? When did you last look for that last LP you wanted to play on the record player?

Well? if you had to pause to think about those answers - you have already answered the main question - when did you last use old technology?

I was stuck in the power industry - using old thoughts, old processes, old technology.....and i was sick of it. This is not farming (which frankly has better technology anyway), this is engineering. The security safety net that seems to protect things old, is now holding civilization back.

If we do not grow our minds, at what point are we better than any previous generations?

I remember it was just 10 years ago and i would drool over computer magazines where CGI machines would show us the latest in simulation.
Truth be told i swear CGI was why i thought engineering was a good place to be.

Changing CAPS to lowercase in EXCELL

The =PROPER() function will do this for most records.

Let's say your data is in A2:G600
Over in blank columns off to the right, enter a formula of =PROPER(A2)
Copy this formula from, say H2 to H2:N600. Make the shape of this range of formulas match the shape of your original range. If you original data has 7 columns, make this data have 7 columns.

You then have to change the formulas to values using these steps:
Highlight your range of formulas - H2:N600
Edit > Copy
Edit > Paste Special > Click Values > Click OK

Hi all best i touch base again....
Looks like move no. 4356 (and man am i sick of moving - im starting to feel like bedouin) is about to happen in the next few weeks with both V and i moving to a studio apartment in Ashfield in Sydney....... will keep you posted as always. As it stands i am still paying rent in Newcastle and all my stuff is still here. So if you know anyone wanting to rent in Newy let me know. Shame really as i quite like it here.
In other news Volvo just released a new image of the new s60 concept, using their new design language.....and i have to admit i think this will be one tasty car. Its good to see an angro ovlov for once.


Its seems that FUJI Heavy Industries has shifted some funds into Subaru's design department in the last few months with some very tasty concepts for the legacy and the mysterious Subaru/Toyota Coupe' (RWD FTW!) poping up for 2010.

Right i should leave it like that for a short time.....check back later this week when i tell you why XP sucks over Vista (yes i did get that the right way around - i found something in XP that really irritates me now.....and is fixed in Vista)

Handy hint for the day

I just undocked my pc, now i couldn't find any of my windows.
The solution is here (thanks to onetipaday.com)

"I just found an easy solution for moving application windows that have somehow ended up off-screen back to the middle of a monitor where you can see it. It was such a nice fix, I just had to share it!

Alt-tab to get the offending application as the active application in windows
Go to the taskbar and right click on the application and choose ‘Move’
You cursor will now changes shape to one with arrows at each corner. Now just use your arrow keys to move the hidden app to where you can see it, and the problem is solved!
With some applications there isn’t a Move option in Windows. Don’t worry, because for these applications just do 1, but use ‘ALT+SPACE+M’ to activate Windows Move option.

Fantastic Auto-Defrag Program

Ok guys you can stop harrassing me to fix your PC now.
Download this program, install it, and set the "Auto-Defrag" feature up - after then everytime you start up you PC, and leave the PC to idle it will kick into life and fix your PC for you.

I am currently running it on all my PC's, and if you ask me to fix your PC again the first thing i will do is install this program.

How to get WINDOWS to manage wireless

I just had wireless crash on V's lappy......and it wouldn't recover.....windows refused to manage it and the laptop refused to let anything else manage it.
It kept telling me to find Windows Zero (damn you XP!!!!)
After days of trying to get Windows Zero config to manage wireless , I finally tracked down the following instructions :-

To start the Wireless Zero Configuration service, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type c:windows\system32\services.msc /s, and then click OK.
2. Double-click Wireless Zero Configuration.
3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.
4. In the Service status area, click Start, and then click OK.

MailMarshal is crap

Well, MailMarshal is full of crap, and the people who have devised it can suck my .....

I just found out that i HAVE to take a link to this blog out of my email or the email accounts managed by MailMarshal will BLOCK my email from getting to my friends.

What a load of crap.
