Whats up blogspot - new format not working? Roll it back please.
In other news ipredict finally listened to the hordes of people who were leaving and revised its fee structure. So I am back on there again.

Midnight natterings 1
Staying up late to try and sort a big assignment. For more reasons than one.
The assignment is a development plan. Where I sit down and set my problems, resolutions and goals for the next 3 years.
I know I have a slackness, lack of desire to push forward in some areas. I kill time with some pointless tasks - that do no inspire me. This has been leading me to do some dumb things, and pass up some dreams I have held for some time.
Its like that age old saying - "Would the 4 year old version of you, kick you in the nuts?".
What motivates you?
I think what motivates me is good music. Just have Shapeshifter in the headphones. Feeling good. Dunno why. Perhaps also V has kicked in. So I guess V also motivates me.
When I look back at my entries into "The angel, the devil and a motorbike" Yuqi motivated me......as well as music and V.....haha
I guess I feel a motivation in regard to Yuqi, and my boy on the way - but I am not sure how that motivation works. Need to do a bit of digging.

8:13pm. to take
my mind off her.- - > I need to think of something to occupy my mind. Easy enough
now I just need an idea…
9:48pm. I’m a little intoxicated, not gonna lie. So what if it’s not even
10pm and
it’s a Tuesday night? What? The Kirkland facebook is
open on my computer desktop and some of these people have pretty horrendous facebook
pics.
I almost want to put some of these faces next to pictures of farm animals and have
people
vote on which is more attractive. It’s not such a great idea and probably not even
funny, but
Billy comes up with the idea of comparing two people from the facebook, and only
sometimes
putting a farm animal in there. Good call Mr. Olson! I think he’s onto something.
11:09pm. Yea, it’s on. I’m not exactly sure how the farm animals are going
to
fit into this whole thing (you can’t really ever be sure with farm animals…), but I
like the
idea of comparing two people together. It gives the whole thing a very Turing feel,
since
people’s ratings of the pictures will be more implicit than, say, choosing a number to
represent each person’s hotness like they do on hotornot.com. The other thing we’re
going to
need is a lot of pictures. Unfortunately, Harvard doesn’t keep a public centralized
facebook
so I’m going to have to get all the images from the individual houses that people are
in.
And that means no freshman pictures…drats.
12:58pm. Let the hacking begin. First on the list is Kirkland. They keep
everything
open and allow indexes in their Apache configuration, so a little wget magic is all
that’s
necessary to download the entire Kirkland facebook. Child’s play.
1:03am.
Next on the list is Eliot. They’re also open, but with no indexes
in
Apache. I can run an empty search and it returns all of the images in the database in
process.php

asingle page. Then I can save the page and Mozilla will save all the images for me.
Excellent. Moving right along…
1:06am. Lowell has some security. They require a username/password combo
to access the facebook. I’m going to go ahead and say that they don’thave access to the
main fas user database, so they have no way of knowing what people’s passwords are, and
the house isn’t exactly going to ask students for their fas passwords, so it’s got to
be
something else. Maybe there’s a single username/password combo that all of Lowell
knows.
That seems a little hard to manage since it would be impossible for the webmaster to
tell
Lowell residents how to figure out the username and password without giving them away
completely. And you do want people to know what kind of authentication is necessary,
so it’s
probably not that either. So what does each student have that can be used for
authentication
that the house webmaster has access to? Student ids anyone? Suspicions affirmed –
time
to get myself a matching name and student id combo for Lowell and I’m in. But there
are
more problems. The pictures are separated into a bunch of different pages, and I’m
way too
lazy to go through all of them and save each one. Writing a perl script to take care
of that
seems like the right answer. Indeed.
1:31am. Adams has no security, but limits the number of results to 20 a
page.
All I need to do is break out the same script I just used on Lowell and we’re set.
1:42am. Quincy has no online facebook. What a sham. Nothing I can do about
that.
1:43am. Dunster is intense. Not only is there no public directory, but
there’s
no directory at all. You have to do searches, and if your search returns more than 20
matches, nothing gets returned. And once you do get results, they don’t link directly
to
the images; they link to a php that redirects or something. Weird. This may be
difficult.
I’ll come back later.
1:52am. Leverett is a little better. They still make you search, but you
can
do an empty search and get links to pages with every student’s picture. It’s slightly
obnoxious that they only let you view one picture at a time, and there’s no way I’m
going
to go to 500 pages to download pics one at a time, so it’s definitely necessary to
break out
emacs and modify that perl script. This time it’s going to look at the directory and
figure
out what pages it needs to go to by finding links with regexes. Then it’ll just go to
all
of the pages it found links to and jack the images from them. It’s taking a few tries
to
compile the script…another Beck’s is in order.
2:08am. Mather is basically the same as Leverett, except they break their directory down into classes. There aren’t any freshmen in their facebook…how weak. So I

Case Study - 42 Below
Its been a while since I put something up here. And since I just finished a Marketing Management Assignment. I figure - hey, what the hell.....Why don't I put an older one up here for you guys to read. So here some Analyzing of 42 below - the fantastic vodka company.
42 below Marketing Management Memo
The Key issue:
The key issue with 42 below is what happens to their marketing forward from this point. As the article left the impression that with 42 below’s current situation – they could relax on the marketing base they had grown. Geoff Ross (CEO) was quoted for being “loaded” (Morrish, 2007) and somewhat satisfied from what he has achieved.
Why is this concern?
42 below are known as a loud and very non-traditional. They have gone against norms within marketing, which stated that you cannot publish advertising which would cause public outcry. They took large gambles with their marketing – attempting to not only target a very specialist and well hidden market (high class bars), but do so by putting themselves in the spotlight
For a company whose following was built on the principal of loud blatant advertising, to rest on their laurels (Morrish, 2007) – would mean that they would be relying wholeheartedly on the aspect that their product was the best.
So what? The guy deserves a break – how does this affect the company as a whole?
42 below’s marketing policy is very left-field, and such abrupt marketing may not join well with new owners – Bacardi. Bacardi’s Vice President – Atul Vora, was quoted for saying the following;
“Take them back to the nostalgia of what we believe represents New Zealand, the purity and beauty of the country” (Walker, Gountas, Mavondo, Mullins, 2009, p374)
When talking about 42 below’s future marketing strategy. This missed the key point behind 42 below (and often New Zealand’s) strategy – they hit their target market via being “outspoken”, and “loud”.
So how can this move forward?
It seems obvious to me that the marketing management of the 42 below operations sit squarely on Geoff Ross’s shoulders. He has done what he set out to achieve, upon his departure (as he is looking at retirement) 42 below will simply become a notch to Bacardi’s belt of products (conforming 42 below to the Bacardi template of marketing).
So with that said my first recommendation would be that Geoff Ross takes on some apprentice’s so that he can pass on how he has built and maintains the marketing perspective of 42 below. Bacardi need to treat 42 below as their ‘wild card’ brand, to maintain the market built up around the left-field marketing performed in the past. Otherwise points of differentiation will be lost.

ACC levy increase submission
To whom it may concern.
Rather that take to whole "Its not fair" walk that most motorcyclist will be submitting to you - I actually understand the financial strain that ACC is facing, and I actually think we should all pay more for ACC.
However, I do feel that the proposed scheme in ACC levies does have some pitfalls, which if not addressed are only going to get worse.
It is well known that motorcycles are dangerous, as as most things in life - however ACC levies do not seem to take into account that people stand a high chance of injury using day-to-day items. ACC levies seem to only be concentrated to road users and workers - where in a very matter of fact way everyone knows that chance of injury on the road (and workplace) is very minimal incomparison to the home, public areas and sports grounds.
- Where are the levies on dangerous items such as knives?
- Where are the levies on dangerous tasks such as sports?
- When does the home pay ACC levies?
OSH states that we should treat all Hazards as dangerous, and a hazard is something which COULD cause HARM. However the current ACC levy system seems to think that the only hazards in life are on the road or at work (if thats the case, we should all stay at home then).
My proposal is simple - by all means increase ACC's income to support the idea. But be completely unbiased. An ACC tax of 0.5% on top of GST would easily cover ACC expenses, and would be completely unbiased. Not only that - but because the average household expensive increase would be minimal, it would also be relatively un-opposed.
Now is the time to fix this flawed system, so that all those covered, are paying the costs.

Only then will you know...
Sometimes you have to look back at where you have come from. What you have seen.
To truly appreciate the wonders of the world. The wonders in your life.
Just like looking out of an aeroplane - people see you as you are from far, they are not expected to assume that you are worth getting closer to.
It is up to you to make that view worth while. Only then you know where your world changes.
Did the world change or you?

Tracy Chapman - Fast Car
You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem
He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision
You leave tonight or live and die this way

I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem
He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision
You leave tonight or live and die this way

Interesting fact
75% of work stress is caused by management......
actually when you think about it, it's a useless fact - like saying 95% of drownings are caused by water....

Compromise
Contrary to even what i believed - Compromise is actually an instant where 2 groups lose.
Case and point the recent "Anti-Smacking Bill" / Referendum.
The peoples opinion on the referendum was partially ignored. And on the flip side - the law will not be enforced.
Both parties lose - Compromise.
